Posted By: Ben Y.
I am looking to buy or trade for these 1911 Zeenuts.
They are some of the cards that I need, to try and
get real close to finishing the set.
If there are any plain old collectors out there, any
help would be greatly appreciated. I have been working on this, for at least 6 years.
Please send scans to my Email address. Posted By: Peter Thomas
Sorry that I can not help with any of those cards, but I do have a question for those with more complete sets than mine. I have 63 different cards or 50% of the set. If these cards are equally scarce as the guides indicate - then the chance that I would not have 1 of these cards is 2 in 1000 or .2% - so I think that some cards are rarer at this point in time. Weather they were at issue is another matter. Maybe the cards are from less popular teams or players at the time of issue and disappeared rapidly after issue. Any thoughts?

Posted By: Brian McQueen
Peter, great question - I'm kind of curious about this myself and have wondered this same thing about a number of other sets (ie...t209, d311, 1909 Obaks...etc..)

I haven't been going after this set nearly as long as Ben or others so I wouldn't be a good at identifying the "Set toughies". I know of the three players which are well-known to be notoriously tough in this set. There is a fourth card that I feel will be tough as more of us get a little closer to completion as there is a descendent of this player collecting his cards.

One observation is that many cards that I need (I need 11 to finish off the set) are not the same ones that others need. Out of the 11 I still need, Steve Murray has 8 of them oddly enough. Out of the 9 Ben needs above, I have 7 of them. This would lead me to believe that while there are 3-5 set toughies, many of the cards Ben and I still need are certainly attainable

Your observation about the different teams is also a good one. I haven't noticed any difficulty gathering cards for specific teams though in the Z11 set. The 11 cards I still need are scattered pretty evenly across several teams and I believe the same can be said about the 9 players Ben needs. However, team scarcity does come into play in other sets such as d311. I've heard a few people say that Sacramento players seem to be a little tougher to find in that particular issue and out of the seven cards I still need to complete the d311 set, 5 of them are indeed Sacramento players.

Hope this helps a bit....

Posted By: Bob
Arlett is the 4th toughest card in the set and since Weaver is collected because of who he is and Halla is so tough because he is a horizontal card, I think he is really #2 behind Bohen.

Posted By: Steve M.
are you saying:

1. Bohen
2. Halla
3. Weaver
4. Arlett

If so do we put Peckinpaugh No. 5?

Do we put the "box" cards in the mix? At least in the top 10 I would imagine.

Posted By: Brian McQueen
I'd lean towards agreeing with TBob here. Weaver and Peckinpaugh really aren't all that scarce/tough in my opinion. They do carry a premium because of what happened later on with their careers and that makes them more desireable, not necessarily scarce. I've seen Halla cards pop up from time to time and I know where a couple might be right now. Arlett I'm not sure about although I do see that, aside from Bohen, that is the only card that Ben and I both need. As for Bohen, I did hear a story about the Bohen card being removed from production (ala t206 Wagner) so that could be the reason for that card's scarcity. I don't really believe the theory about Bohen's card being scarce because he was Jewish because Bohen's 1912 Zeenut seems to be pretty readily available.

What we all need to do is compare lists of the cards we're still needing. Then we can slot those as the true set toughies
