CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: Kyle
As a newer collector/hobyist, How does CCSA get away with it month after month with that many lots/bids? And agreed-are they using a polaroid?

Posted By: Mike
I did the only thing I could do in my power, I cancelled my subscription a few weeks ago and now just check on-line. That's only about $40 a year but if they lose a few thousand then they will be out of business. I had a subscription since the 1980's. They just don't listen at SCD . They have to know about some of this stuff.

Posted By: CS Bolay
Sometimes when I'm bored I'll post snide CCSA-related comments on the SCD blogs. They generally either ignore or delete 'em...Noticed some other merry pranksters were doing the same thing. Got a real kick out of a Bloedow entry once, some guy (not me, I'm not that good) made him get real defensive.

http://bloedowsblock.sportscollectorsdigest.com/CommentView,guid,6b1c8baf-4892-4baf-b38f-e2c530293e6d.aspx

_________

Bonus comedy link:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Sports%20Collectors%20Digest
Posted By: Bob
I got a kick out of Steve noting that he doesn't have time read everything. What's it down to? 30 pages on non-CCSA weeks? I found the urban dictionary definition amusing beyond belief! Thanks for sharing.

Bob

Posted By: Anonymous
With so many people complaining about Coach's Corner here and other websites you would think the authorities would be looking into them, Stat and Morales. I think their auction last week ended with a Cy Young ball going for less than 500.00.

CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: DJ
My favorite is the opening statement as the auction just concluded..."Congratulations to all the lucky winners!".

In the last Lelands autograph, a very rare signature of Vic Willis (on a business card sold for) $7594. In the last Coach's Corner auction, a John Montgomery Ward sold for $256 and a Charles Radbourne sold for $277. You would think that the Radbourne would be above and beyond the selling price of Willis.

But here's "the kicker" (football pun)...you could have purcashed BOTH of those signatures ($533) OR the PSA/DNA authenticated Jerome Bettis jersey that sold in the Coach's Corner auction for $512!

Yes, this is not regulated...at all. With this one concluding as such, new one around the "Corner".

DJ

Posted By: Anonymous
Radbourne's signature is rarer than Joe Jackson's. $277 might cover the shipping and insurance on a Radbourne signed baseball.
|
CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Two known verifiable Radbourne/Radbourn signatures versus perhaps fifty Shoeless Joe Jacksons. The demand is obviously in Jackson's favor, but Hoss is one of the true cornerstones in a HOF signature collection.

CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: Robert
Can you tell me a little more about these two "existing" Radbourn signatures? Where are they? Who has them? Any public sale prices? How much is a Radbourn worth...if it was sold publicly in say Mastro Auctions?

Robert
|
CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: davidcycleback
I assume not quite as rare Radboure, but King Kelly's signature is also very rare and I saw one in a Mastro auction a few years back. It's not coincidence that both died in the 19th century and were down and out in the last years. Radbourne lived his last couple of years as a reclusive basket case after a disfiguring hunting accident Kelly died a drunk at 36.

CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Actually, Kelly is right on par with Hoss for rarity. There is/are only 1-2 verifiable example(s) on him as far as I can recall.

CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: Dave Haas
Pardon my ignorance concerning CCSA but are many of the items in their auctions bogus? I've read a couple of posts concerning Morales' authenticating skills but should I avoid bidding on all of their items?

DH
|
CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Yes. Even if the item is (gasp) legitimate, I would advise against doing business with the devil.
|
CCSA-How? Explain to a newbie.....
Posted By: davidcycleback
Whether or not an item is legitimate, realize that if you try and sell it the potential buyer may ask you were you obtained it.

One reason I liked buying directly from people like Mike Gutierrez is that at resale I could tell people I obtained the autograph directly from Mike Gutierrez.
