Speaking of Bats...old bat question

Posted By: leon
A nice Net54'er sent me these scans a few days ago to post for him. For the record they were about 2.5mb each and had a weird file name, which are the reasons they woudn't post. The size was about 20x too big, and the file names had a dash in them (which won't work) but here are the scans....Does anyone have an idea about the specifics of this bat? Thanks in advance.....

Speaking of Bats...old bat question

Posted By: John Harrell
Leon,

Based on a bat I have, I would say that the letters NYCS stand for New York Central Station. The bat I have has the letters NYCRR and is made from an old railroad tool, which is what I suspect this bat is made from. My bat dates from the late 1870's-mid 1880's and I would guess that this bat dates from approximately the same period. I have some documentation that shows the particular tools that were used for bats.

John

Posted By: dynarl
I purchased this bat at an antique shop in Indiana and it was displayed with other railroad items. It had a tag that said it was a railroad bat. Thanks John for the info!
