Which Sport Is This?
 

Posted By: <b>D. Bergin</b><p>This is a real photo postcard I pulled from a vintage album full of postcards and photos. Most of the images were boxing related but there were several other sports represented. The date range was between 1917-23.<br /><br />It looks like an American Football helmet from the searches I've done, only problem is this originates from the Geneva, Switzerland area. I can't imagine American Football being a factor over there.<br /><br />Possibly an Auto Racer? I couldn't find any evidence of Rugby players wearing these types of helmets. It's inscribed and signed on the front but I can't make out a word of it.<br /><br />If anybody has any clues let me know. Good luck but it looks to be unreadable even if you can read the language, plus it blends right into the background which doesn't help.<br /><br />Jim VB,<br /><br /> You may be on to something with the Bobsledding. Curiously, though the album came from a Swiss boxer there really wasn't any evidence of any Winter Sports being represented. I guess there's always the exception. I found Bicycling, Running, Strongman stuff, Soccer, Fencing. The Swiss won the Gold medal in the Bobsleigh in 1924 at the Olympics and the sport originated in Switzerland so I'm leaning toward Bobsled right now I guess.<br /><br />Unfortunately I can't find any decent period photos to really confirm this.
