Posted By: barrysloate
I believe the 41 Play ball wrapper is the toughest of the three. About 5-6 years ago I found a guy in New Jersey who discovered a bunch of them, may 15-20, while going through his dad's belongings. I remember all the wrapper people telling me that was a big deal as those rarely ever surfaced. The hoard brought the price down a bit but I recall the first few selling in the $700-800 range and even the last group reaching $400 each or more. I don't know what they go for today.

Incidentally, the 41's come in four colors, and this grouping had three only. Yellow was missing, but there were several each of orange, red, and green.

Posted By: Jeff Schwarz
I am a newcomer to Net 54 and am extremely impressed by the knowledge and expertise of the people on this board. I finally found something to which I can respond. Wrappers have been one of my collecting passions since the late 1980's when Dave Richardson spent considerable time mentoring me on the scarcity of some items. Fortunately, I have been able to pick up a few highly prized pieces along the way.

Here are scans of DeLong, Geo. C. Miller National League, 1941 Playball Orange, and PX3 Doubleheader Pins wrappers. Thought these might be of interest to some. I still need a Tattoo Orbit Sun Blue wrapper, the Geo. C. Miller American League, a 67 Topps Stand Ups and a 69 Topps Super.

Please email me if you have anything unusual or interesting in the wrapper area. Thanks.

(I cannot figure out how to add the other scans correctly. Please help me get them on for all to see. Thanks.)

edited scan size

Posted By: Gary Cieradkowski
Wow! Thanks for throwing caution to the wind (no bogus "insurance" claims) and posting those wrappers! The generosity of the majority of the members here sure offset the few who don't share. I'd love to see more of these because I don't have any of these yet and being a package designer I am always interested in what the cards came in originally.

Posted By: Jeff Schwarz
Thanks Barry. I bought some beautiful T206s from you back in the mid to late 1980s and they are still some of the finest cards in my set. I have always remembered as a real honest, fair man.
Have you ever handled/seen a Miller or PX3 wrapper lately? Trying to get an idea of value as I do not have any auction results on which to base an opinion. Would you recommend sending them in to be graded?

Gary, thanks for the nice words. Not sure what wrappers you would like to see, but I have included the only Diamond Star wrapper with an orange star that I have ever seen, a Schutter Johnson, a Demaree, and what I believe to be a prototype wrapper from a proposed candy bar for Hack Wilson and Gabby Harnett.

Anyone with any interesting wrappers, please contact me.

By the way, not sure why this happened, but the Diamond Star wrapper is really much more blue than the greenish scan.

edited scan sizes

Posted By: barrysloate
Hi Jeff- thanks for the kind words, and I knew your name sounded familiar. I don't handle wrappers very often, I just kind of lucked into that 1941 Play Ball find. I think there are people who see these a lot more often than I do.

Posted By: DD
Thanks for the scan Jeff. I didn't realize that 67 Giant Standup had a wrapper. The only 69 super wrapper I remember seeing auctioned was by Tom Pfirman (sp?) in SCD back in the late 70's I think.
