Vintage Bat help

Posted By: Keith
Hey guys,

My dad picked up this group of bats in a cheap lot at an estate auction recently. In the group is a Louisville Slugger Joe Dimaggio bat (cracked - 34 inches), a Kren bat that has Belleville PAL burned into it (in bad shape), and several softball bats including 2 Louisville Sluggers, 2 Louisville Slugger Black Betsy bats, and 2 Hanna Batrite Softball bats (1 a reddish color). Do Softball bats hold any value?

Posted By: Mike H
Softball bats hold little or no value other than as wall hangers for restaurants. The Dimaggio has a little value, but the condition like you stated is poor. I would simply clean them up and display them.

Posted By: Keith
Thanks Mike,

Thats what I figured. I think he paid 3 bucks for the group, so no big deal. As to cleaning them up, any recommendations on how this should be done? Do you think I should remove the old tape? Any product that should be used to clean the wood itself?

thanks again
KJ

Posted By: Mike H
Wipe them with a damp cloth then apply lemon oil. Don't mess with the tape. The trouble it takes to clean off the residue is not worth the effort. You will also uncover something ugly most of the time.
