need help clearing up something
Posted By: brock
Hi
I collect vintage HOF store model bats, and i want to double check something. When there's a number stamped on the knob that is for the length(like 35) were talking circa 1935. Now i have a 40BR bat that has nothing stamped on the knob. Does this mean that it was sent back to hillerich & bradsby. So my question is what does a store model bat mean when there's no length index stamped on the knob. Thanks for the help

Posted By: Anonymous
Ok i send it a little wrong.

On the knob of store model bats it has the number 34,35 etc. In the middle brand theres 40 something. Like for babe ruth bats 40BR. What i want to know is what is a 40BR bat but has no number on the knob, does that mean anything.

Like my one George Kell 40GK store model bat has nothing on the knob and it's also side writtenfrom 1922.

Now, someone could find a store model bat they liked and send it to H&B for duplication in quality wood model 125 or 250. It's also possible the 40BR missed the knob stamp step, it was worn off, or someone removed it. Unless you have a picture of a pro player using a model 40 or a record from H&B that they did, I would NEVER consider them a potential gamer. They are great pieces of memorabilia, but that is it.

Posted By: Anonymous
Sorry dan i meant George L. Kelly.

Mike i know what you mean, i knew this was never used by babe, but i want to double check to make sure that when there's no numbers stamped on the knob that it didn't mean that it was used by a minor leaguer or something. But like you said it most likey worn off, or missed the stamp step.I have not got it yet but i'll take a closer look when i get it. I think i got a great deal on the bat also. Thanks for the help

Posted By: Jimmy
These bats were made in the teens through the 1930s for many different players and if you read the book "Smithsonian Baseball" its gives a clear definition of these type bats

Jimmy
