1914 Chicago American Giants, or another reason to join SABR
Posted By: <b>Max Weder</b><p>Posted on SABR L by my friend Kit<br /><br />"At the most recent meeting of the Vancouver SABR group, a women brought a group of panorama photos, mostly of local amateur teams and teams in the Northwest League taken from 1910-1918. Among them was a photo of the Chicago American Giants. The team toured the Northwest that year and I will soon undertake a search of local papers to find accounts of games.<br /><br />Larry Lester has helped in the identification of the players. So-far identified are Pete Hill, Bruce Petway, Rube Foster, Pop Lloyd, Jude Gans, Bill Gatewood, Bill Francis, LeRoy Grant and Pete Booker. There are four unidentified players in the photo.<br /><br />My query is whether anyone knows of another photo of the 1914 American Giants. The owner is going to place it up for auction, but I hope to persuade her to permit its circulation and reprint for SABR members.<br /><br />Off-list responses are fine.<br /><br />Kit Krieger"
