Philadelphia Caramel Co. (WARNING: not for the squeemish)

Posted By: petecld
It seems collecting Philadelphia Caramel cards is A LOT more fun than working at the company. From the U.S. Department of Labor about the Philadelphia Caramel Co.

Ò... In plain sight of a hundred fellow workmen, Martin Stoffel was cut into small pieces at the Philadelphia Caramel Works ... He was dragged into the machinery and his head severed....A second later both legs were cut off. Then one arm after the other fell into the lesser wheels below, both being cut into many parts. Before the machinery could be stopped, Stoffel had been literally chopped to pieces.Ó

Yuck.....

Posted By: James Feagin
Happens all the time, and it still happens a lot. While I was serving an LDS Mission in Texas just 3 years ago, in the small town I was serving there was a huge meat packing plant. While I was there a hispanic gentleman fell into the meat grinder and something similar happened to him. Apparently, in that part of West Texas it wasn't all that uncommon.
