Copeland Auction Catalog
Posted By: AdamBaxter

Hi all,

A while back a new visitor to the board posted a thread asking about good pre-war baseball card reference books. I believe it was Jay Miller who suggested that he pick up some auction catalogs from previous auctions such as Mastro, Sotheby's, etc. I'm not really a newbie as I 've been collecting for some time now, but I'm always open to new ideas and suggestions to help me learn more about the hobby. I thought Jay offered some good advice and recently I was lucky enough to bid on and win a fine condition 1991 Sotheby's catalog for the Copeland collection (for 5.00!) on Ebay. I know that this may be old news for some of you who were in the hobby at the time this auction was going, but I got the catalog today and it was literally jaw dropping! Like I said, I've been collecting for a while and I have seen alot of stuff, but nothing like the items in this collection. I would say that I've never even seen 50% of the 19th century and early twenty century items in the catalog and the condition, especially for the 19th century material (cabinets, etc), was nothing short of amazing. For anyone new to the vintage hobby or anyone who's looking for an incredible photo reference of 19th and early 20th century baseball cards and memorabilia, I highly recommend it.
