question?

Posted By: doug
My grandpa gave me these thin cloth diamonds with base ball players on them.
I am not sure how old they are and what they are? I was hoping maybe someone here might have seen these or heard of them before before.
Once agian they are in the shape of a infield with bats at home plate a ball on first, what looks like a turtle on second and a glove on first. The player is standing in the middle with two banners on the side of him. one banner says the state or city and the other says the leauge and the players name is under the player.
I have SHANKS,from WASH AL, BURNS,from NEW YORK NL,MOWERY, from PITTSBURGH NL, and DOYLE, from NEW YORK NL.
thanks.

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
Doug:

Your description leads me to believe that you have some 1914 B18 Blankets. These are sometimes referred to as blankets, felts or flannels. Attached are some scans of "catcher" B18s that I own.

Enjoy, Patrick

If you have your owne website you have type in the link of the page ending in .jpg and it it will appear here. Otherwise you can use Network54 to psot pics, but the number you can post is limited, which why you always seeing Julie downing countdowns in her posts when she can post new pics, hehe.

Jay

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
Hi Doug:

For my money, B18s are still one of the better values in vintage collecting. You can often find them in the $15, $20, $25 range. Condition, players, and rarer color varieties will drive prices.

If you would like to post an image with a thread, here is how I do it:

1) The first step is to log-in so that the "insert object" box will appear at the bottom of the thread box.

2)Click on "Insert Object" box.

3)Click on Temporary Files. (Files need to be GIF, JPEG, and PNG files.) (*Also scans should be resized to less than 70 kb or they will not upload.) Another tip is to keep file names basic since only alphanumeric characters, underscore, and period are accepted. In other words, avoid hyphens (i.e. B-18)

4)Click on Upload.

5)Click on Browse.

6)Click on file name and then on open.

7)Click on Upload.

8)Click on insert file.

That's all there is to it. Good Luck!

Posted By: Paul
For what it's worth, the turtle on second base is a catcher's mask.

question?

Posted By: jay behrens
But the basebpaths of a ball field are called a diamond. I am sure this is reason for using this term since B18s are laid out like a baseball diamond.

Jay
