Posted By: Bob Lemke
but this has been gnawing at me since it was sort of glossed over in a recent thread. Can anyone confirm the existence of M101-5 (as differentiated from M101-4) with Sporting News ad on back? If we've been carrying this listing in error since the 1st edition of the Standard Catalog, this would be a good time to catch it.

Posted By: Bob Lemke
Thanks to Lew Lipset who took time away from his deadlining auction to phone with confirmation that M101-5 is, indeed, found with the TSN ad backs.

Posted By: Tim Newcomb
For what it's worth, I now have almost 300 M101-4/5, and not a single one that's unequivocally a Sporting News number. In other words, I have some where the player has the same number in both sets, but none where he's clearly an M101-5.

So if even Lew or someone else confirms that M101-5 can be found with TSN backs, I'd argue that they were extremely scarce.

Cheers,
Tim
