Sovereign Unopened 1910 Cigarette Pack

If you look at the side and the tax stamp, you will see the number 8 (around the facorty number on the side and in the upper corners of the tax stamp). This means this pack contains 8 cigarettes, not 10. All relevant T-cards were packaged in 10 packs. I know this seller has offered packs before... just wanted to give everyone a heads up!

Posted By: hankron
In my opinion, the only big issue is how much a collector is paying. All the packs are collectable and have some value. For a relatively plentiful 1920 Sweet Caporal pack (looks nice, obviously will not have a T206 inside), if a collector wants to pay $30 or $50 or $80, that seems reasonable. If he pays $130, that seems high to me, but far from outrageous. If he pays $700 or $800, that's about 7x too much.
Posted By: Jon Canfield
I agree with you completely, but - I gladly paid a pretty penny for my Broadleaf, High Grade and Creole empty packs and I don't think I'd have too much trouble selling them if I wanted to. I also just got an ok-looking Old Mill for a little over $100 - again a great price in my opinion... took me 3 years to get one! If there is one thing I've learned, can't put a price on items you want...

Posted By: Peter Thomas
The issue here is that this auction is a scam. Seller has a reserve of over $500 and is describing a pack with the possibility of a T206. I am sure he knows that this is not possible. Flo-Joy in a different color

Posted By: hankron
Jon, I understand what you are saying, but I doubt that anyone has ever paid $800 for an unopened Sweet Caporal pack where the seller clearly pointed out that the pack was from 1920 and would contain no trading cards. And one doesn't have to be a psychic to figure out how the buyer thought he was paying $800 for.

When auction was pointed out here, I contacted him and pointed all the reason why it can't have a card, the 8 cigs, wrong factory, etc. He seemed genuinely interested in why I certainly that it did not have a card

Jay

Eight-packs

I know this is an older post that I'm resurrecting. But you mentioned that unopened cigarette 8-packs won't have cards inside. However, I am almost certain the American Beauty T206 cards were from 8-packs. When I started collecting my set 30 years ago, collectors who were 70+ years old back then told me that's why they are slightly narrower than the standard T206.

Any other brand that produced an 8-pack, like the Piedmont up for sale on baseball and tobacco.com, would fall in that category.

The Piedmont is actually a 10-pack, not an 8-pack.

Kind regards,
Jon
