Ghost or Scribble?
Posted By: Nickinvegas
Hello,
I picked this up at a mall show a few weeks ago. My wife says the card has modern scrible on it, I say it is some sort of factory ghost with period writing on the side. Which is it?

Nick

I croped the photo to only show the area of interest.

Ghost or Scribble?
Posted By: petecld
It does look like a soldier carrying a flag. Looks like a stamp though, not printing. The writing is probably period but nothing a printer would include. Call it "period era " scribble.

Ghost or Scribble?
Posted By: Dave
It looks to me that the ink used for the numbers is the same as that for the soldier. Hard to tell, though. If so, it would be a drawing rather than ghost.

I love the Becker ghost. Perfect clarity and centering. My guess is that the black layer of one sheet was still wet when a new sheet was stacked on it. Just lucky to get it this perfect.

Here's where it came from:

Ghost or Scribble?
Posted By: runscott
My interest in printer scrap cards is also based on the fact that they can tell us so much about how these cards were produced.

For instance, the Becker card would lead me to believe that the black was printed after the colors, since black was wet and colors were dry. On the other hand, the "brown/yellow" cards that were missing colors, HAD the black. What does it mean?

I would be interested to hear theories from people who know more about lithography printing.

Where before we would have seen 3-4 posts, instead we get a single blank post with several "evidences" of editing.

You better read this message quickly - I'm logged in and ready to edit it down to nothing!

Posted By: Cycleback
that the rule of thumb for color printing is that you print the lightest ink first and the darkest inks last.
