Last straw in the chatroom tonight

Posted By: runscott
Tonight was a bit much. The hijackings all year have sucked, but tonight we were all logged in and we still had to deal with a bunch of children who came in just to be disgusting. We couldn't get a baseball word in edgewise.

So I set up a members only chat in the non-baseball forum and it's working like a charm: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/273838

Last straw in the chatroom tonight

Posted By: Hankron
I'm just waiting for Scott Cowan's board to appear. I seriously hope that some form of registration is required for that board. I hope and expect the best from Mr. Cowan, but would not support or use the new board unless there was some for of required registration. All of the major problems with this board (not including popups, etc) are because of Elliot firm refusal to require registration, and I don't see the point of abandoning one board to go to another board with the exact problems.

Posted By: Hankron
And, being an elitist at heart, I've never had any problem going as far as restricting the viewability of the posts to people who are registered ... One reason I hestitated at doing my online essay about authenticating albumen photos, was that folks like Koos, Dr. Bond, Roy Huff and perhaps the person who made the 'Old Judge Proofs' regularly read this board (To be frank, the list includes PSA, SGC and GAI, who never gave me a penny or the time of day and who I've never felt an obligation to teach). I worried that such an essay may prove to be a 'how to make a better fake' essay ... Simularly, I don't know why it is deemed desirable to bend over backward to allow these and similar folks access the board (and who apparently are now regularly visiting the chatroom).... Registration would take ten seconds and I never understood why this was deemed such a hardship to those who wanted to use and post on the board.
