Ebay graded choices! NO SGC??????????????
Posted By: Hankron
Another way to put it: Considering the population of PRO and AAA cards on eBay, perhaps the SGC advocate should rejoice, not lament, that eBay doesn't recommend SGC.

Ebay graded choices! NO SGC??????????????
Posted By: Hankron
I should also point out that the nature of these categories and the amount eBay is being paid by each grader is more than likely related. eBay ain't a charity, you know.

Ebay graded choices! NO SGC??????????????
Posted By: Marc S.
as I understand it -- is that when Ebay went through the category process to refine grading categories by grader -- they were looking for a critical mass of 75 listings per grader to separately list that grader going forward. This is probably an iterative process in the future, and not necessarily related to a grader paying Ebay (not likely....). But I think SGC is listed for some of the MLB categories -- just not those where SGC cards are thinly traded (e.g. modern)

Ebay graded choices! NO SGC??????????????
Posted By: Hankron
While I don't doubt Mark's population remarks, I will bet that each of the eBay recommended graders pays eBay in some shape or form. eBay never does anything unless they beleive they can charge someone or otherwise get money out of it (Of course, that's what's businesses in general are supposed to do).

Posted By: runscott
For new board participants: ebay will do ANYTHING that will increase profit, and ethics do not matter in the least - if it makes money and they think they can get away with it, they will do it.

The take-home message is to never waste your time complaining to ebay using the tactic of trying to appeal to their ethics or "sense of what is correct".

For instance - complaining about AAA slabbed "cards" is a waste of time because it brings in revenue to ebay, and it is legal. A

nother example - complaining about thieves on ebay. If the thief brings revenue to ebay, and ebay can take the money but at the same time disassociate themselves from any illegalities, then they will allow the criminal activity to continue. So far the tact of "we just provide a means for buyers and sellers to get together - we aren't responsible for what happens" has worked great for ebay.

Ebay graded choices! NO SGC??????????????
Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
Don't get so worried about the lack of an SGC listing under graded cards; there are so damn few of them anyway on ebay. While it might have the best product, apprently SGC is not very popular...

Posted By: Donald Johnson
Title says is all. Was posting some cards tonight and SGC and PSA were the two options under the PRE-1930's cards. No GAI though.

Ebay graded choices! NO SGC??????????????
Posted By: Hankron
eBay is eBay. But what I find particularly loathesome is that (as far as I know) magazines like Beckett don't have reports on AAA and PRO. Aren't these publications supposed to be advocates of the collector? To me, at least, I find this quite simply disgusting.
