I must be PSA illiterate (sp?) but .....

Posted By: Rob L
does this Maris card deserve a grade of 1? The crease is heavy in the corner but that is it. Shouldn't this at least get a VG. Maybe PSA thought that the autograph on the card lowered the grade. What do you all think?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2780771791&indexURL=1& photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

Posted By: Hankron
While liking sharp looking cards as much as the nice person, I don't think most collectors of autographed vintage cards give a hoot about that PSA-10 crap. Realize that 70 percent of these cards were signed through the mail and the other 30 percent taken to the ballpark or wherever and handed from kid to player and back to kid. If the card looks nice and the signature displays nicely on the card, there you go.

Posted By: Hankron
As someone who has sold and bought a lot of autographed cards, from old to new, potential collectors should note that how the signature presents (especially condition and contrast against the card) is much more important than the condition of the card (though the card should present well on its own). I would much, much rather have a Mint signature on a Vg card, than a Vg signature on a Mint card.

Posted By: Rob L
I was just looking at the various Maris autographs for sale and the card caught my eye because of the grade. You're probably right, there may be some unseen damage (like water). I'm surprised PSA didn't also give it an MK because it is marked with the autograph (jk).

Posted By: Julie
Yes, many collectors feel the autograsph to be intrusive on the quality of a card; perhaps PSA does too (unless they're authenticating it, of course!)

Posted By: dan mckee
This is going to hurt but I must agree with PSA on this one. Any writing whatsoever to me lowers the grade.
