error card ?

Posted By: Adam J. Baxter

Seth,
It would be technically considered an error, as his name is misspelled. The 2004 Standard Catalog does acknowledge that some examples of Rusie's N172 Old Judge's are misspelled, however, there is no premium attached to the misspelled versions at this time. N172 Old Judge is not only well known for it's variations, but for spelling errors as well. A few other examples include Buffinton/Buffington, Halliday/Holliday, etc. SCD has several notes in it's Standard Catalog N172 checklist of the more commonly encountered misspellings. I've always found it curious that the hobby hasn't yet really acknowledged the many errors of this set. Although some are common (name misspellings), other errors are legitimately tough and I feel that those should have a premium attached in future guides as the hobby becomes aware of them.

Regards,
Adam

error card ?

Posted By: Kevin Cummings
....given the fact that there is a premium attached to Rusie's misspelled name in the Mayo set as compared to the correctly spelled version ($3450 vs. $2300 in NM).

I can only guess that the Old Judge error occurs as frequently as the correct version and so no premium is warranted either way. Perhaps Jay Miller would know.
