eBay item cancellation--HELP!
Posted By: Jeff S
Hello,

I'm trying to cancel all of the Mayo auctions I have running right now because the scans were not visible for a couple of days. (I'll relist the cards almost immediately.)

However, it looks to me like, in order to cancel the auctions, I need to cancel each bid individually, then individually end each auction.

I'm most concerned about finding a better way to cancel the bids, because if I don't, I'll have to manually cancel over 100 bids before I can end the auctions. I might not take all day, but it will at the very least be a pain in the ass.

Surely there is a better way, and surely one of you knows what it is!

Thanks in advance.
Jeff

Posted By: MW
Jeff,

According to eBay rules, you may end an auction early, but if you do and the reserve has been met (or there is no reserve) you must sell to the high bidder. If you do not wish to sell to the high bidder, you are obligated to cancel all bids before ending the auctions.

The only potential short-cut to this problem would be calling an eBay PowerSeller representative and having them cancel all the auctions for you...although I'm not sure if this is standard procedure.

Posted By: runscott
...but I doubt they'd help you unless you are associated with a major grading company on ebay's preferred vendor list, such as "AAA" or another Roy Huff affiliate.

Posted By: jay behrens
When I cancelled the auction on my Oakes card, it had about a dozen bids. All I did is click the canacell feature and it cancelled all the bids for me. I didn't have to do anything.

Jay

Posted By: Jeff S
Unfortunately I am no longer a PowerSeller (not enough sales; nothing flagitious, I might say), so I didn't appeal to Roy's support staff.

But...I figured out what you did, Jay.

Still took me 10 or 15 minutes to cancel 21 auctions and their bids...seems like there ought to be an easier way to cancel everything. (Maybe I should've just gotten my account suspended.) But it was much easier than manually cancelling each bid.
Posted By: Lee Behrens
Nothing against you Jeff, but why should you make something like this much easier to do? You had a good reason to cancel but too many are cancelled for the wrong reasons, no reason to make it easier. I still don't understand why they allow cancellation of auctions within 12 hrs but don't allow you to retract a bid within 12 hrs of closing. What good for the goose is good for the gander.

eBay item cancellation--HELP!
Posted By: Jeff S
I think that the majority of the auctions that are ended for questionable reasons are ended on a one-by-one basis -- somebody gets an offer they can't refuse...they don't get the price they expected...whatever.

I'm not suggesting it should be easier to end one auction. (Not that it's very hard.)

But my feeling is that someone who is going to cancel all of their auctions or a good portion of them is probably doing it for a reason like mine -- image problems; a mistake in the description template; an accidental relist of last week's auctions; etc. It seems like if it only takes 30 seconds to end one auction, somebody who needs to end 20 (or, heaven forbid, 200), shouldn't have to go through the process that many times.
