When does it stop

Posted By: Lee Behrens
Here is another example of PSA grading that is very questionable:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2765624813&category=31 718

The card is definately short top to bottom and even if it was the correct size and not "MC" How doesit get a 7 being off register and have a stain on the left side. I just don't have much confidence in buying PSA stuff.

I now I bash them but I have yet to find anything by SGC that is so badly overgraded. But PSA seems to consistantly come up with bone head grades.

Lee
Posted By: jay behrens
Isn't 4 boarders a requirement for getting a grade that high? The more I see crap like this, the more I want to send in my o/c diamond cut caramel Indians jsut so they will grade 7 instead of SGC 60.

Jay

Posted By: quan
Call me one of those nasty blind and dumb PSA-lemming for shifting the subject but isn't the Cracker Jack Chase below CLEARLY a reprint? The white shirt/border don't match up and the back isn't even flipped upside-down like any normal '15/176 CJ would. Seems like there's a shortage of vintage graders around.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2765631631&category=31 718

Posted By: Elliot
A big ouch to both Lee and BVG. It will be interesting to see what Beckett does. Perhaps, they will use the same argument as last time, that if it's in their holder then it's OK, unless it is resubmitted to them.

Posted By: runscott
That is truly amazing - CJ's are the easiest of all reprints to spot - the Chase should be one of the easiest to spot!

Posted By: Lee Behrens
Yes I saw the MC and mentioned it in the initial post, but the card is short top to bottom, there is no way there is enough top border for this card to be the correct size. Plus the left edge has an obvious dark stain and the back is rather dirty.

Posted By: runscott
Everyone makes mistakes, but graders should never be hired who cannot tell the difference between a real and fake CJ. Perhaps you have a "training kit" that contains fakes of all the major issues, ask the potential employee to identify real ones and fakes, and then have them tell you why the fakes are not real. Same for re-colored, trimmed, etc. I realize that these graders don't get paid much, but is it really too much to ask that they have the ability to handle at least the most basic vintage issues?
