Anyone know Prizesports?

Posted By: Adam J. Baxter
Hi all,
I'm not interested in bidding on anything that this ebay seller has up for auction on ebay, but a lot of people are. Some of the bidders are people I see bidding on vintage ebay auctions regularly, others I've never seen. The seller seemed new to me and I noticed that he has a few negative feedbacks, one recent one in particular that questioned the authenticity of a card that was sold by him. I looked at his auctions and some of the cards appear legit (I'm no expert), others I'm not so sure of (CJ's). A board member raised some concern about his stuff on my previous "discoveries about people we love" thread. He doesn't throw up some of the more recognizable scammer red flags and he has a Vintage web page where he is apparently starting a vintage card business.

http://www.prizesports.net/index.cgi?Merchant=thegrandprize&Cartid=2332106265 2775&ExpandedDepts=

Not trying to accuse him of scamming or other impropriety , it's just that a few things about his auctions seemed to bother me a little. On one hand some of his cards seem a little iffy, on the other he seems like a legit seller or is at least trying to be. Am I dead-wrong or am I overlooking something?

Any thoughts?

-- Adam

Posted By: MW
Adam,

I think there was some mention before of this seller's cards being trimmed. It is more likely, however, that they were simply cropped by someone who designed the website. If this were not that case, then the grades (e.g., "Excellent") wouldn't make sense given the visual sharpness of some of the cropped corners.

Posted By: runscott
He's not part of the board - just a scammer that Adam and I pissed off. He was selling forgeries as real(created by and purchased from Garth Feldman) under the "Dr.Bond" ebay handle and was caught red-handed - so stupid that he even used the same scans from the Feldman234 auctions where he bought the items. I proved the case to ebay and Dr.Bond disappeared for awhile, then came back with a new "I'm honest - maybe these are reprints" scam.

He changed id's to Harleyman and is now selling Dover reprints (or something similar), roughed up, and with a "God Bless America" description. His m.o. is to go down cussing and screaming...then simply change i.d.'s again.
