Mayo Die Cuts?
 

Posted By: <b>George Counter</b><p>I saw some Mayo Die cuts in an antique shop. There were about ten of them glued to a piece of paper. Are these rare cards? Is this the usual way that they were displayed and what are the values for these cards? Thank you. George

Posted By: <b>runscott</b><p>You wouldn't have been able to tell if they were glued to paper, since the "Mayo" i.d. is on the back.<BR><BR>In any case, they are not worth much though they don't show up often except in sets in non-ebay auctions. Not popular because they were generic "position" cards.

If you think they are neat, that's what counts.<BR><BR>They are very similar to the period Victorian scraps, which were tiny colorful die cuts that were commonly pasted into kids albums. While baseball collectors think of scraps as just those die-cuts busts of baseball players, scraps is actually a term applied to a wide range of die cuts that included everyting from flowers to doggies to ballerinas.<BR><BR>And, as I can never leave without posting some useless information-- scraps were original used to decorate cakes.<BR><BR><img src="http://cycleback.com/scrap_files/image002.jpg">
