Posted By: Wesley
Is it the general rule that when there is too much space between the black piping and the photo, the card is potentially a reprint? I am comparing your card to my other M101s and it looks like there is a lot of space between the image and the black line. Not absolutely sure though.

Posted By: Dano
probably correct Wes, I noticed that myself against my 3, plus these are much thinner stock. Looks like I burnt myself again, couldn't walk around and this guy was right next to me. I had to buy something. Dan.

Posted By: Andy Baran
Dano, the card is definitely a fake. In addition to the space between the photo and the black border, the border itself is also too wide and uniform. The line should be thin and uneven. Hope this helps.

Posted By: Dano
Thanks guys, I kinda knew it while looking at them today. I was caught up in the grandpa story at the time. I think the $125 for the 9 cards was worth the 2 day rush!

Posted By: Hankron
For he record, these cards are photoengravings, the identification of which was discussed in a different thread (don't ask me which one, as I forget). My opinion opinion is that everyone collector of Pre-WWII baseball cards, premiums and suppliments, should buy an inexpensive handheld microscope and learn how to identify this type printing. It's not difficult and these types of microscopes can litterally be carried in one's pocket.

I also wish to point that that about every 6 monthes, after someone bought fakes or doesn't know if such and such is real, I show how to identify this type of printing and recommend the people buy a handheld microscope. Then about six monthes later, someone buys a fake or doesn't know if such and such is real, and I go through this again. It is not an exageration when I say this is about the fifth time I'v done this.

And if my nagging isn't incentive enough: the authentic Froy Joy Babe Ruth cards and sheets are photoengravings and the reprints are not.

Posted By: BcD
you would not beleive the crap he says about you! jealous redneck that he is! Hey,might you have some extra graded m116's to sell me? 7's & 8's? Tbob & I are trying to put the set together.or were until Vendomecat decided he liked them last week! Any way,let me know if you have some ok?

Dan,to answer your 15th e-mail this evening

you owe me $$$. : )

Lastly, David I have loups like the optometrist uses with light built in for $10 that work as good or better than any microscope within reason and you can put in your shirt pocket to bring to shows with you. let me know if you want one or two or three.

Real or Memorex? Help me out guys
Posted By: runscott
I agree with you on the loups doing the job, but, oddly, I have found that many people need much more...perhaps a microscope. I can count on one hand the number of cards that I've held and thought "Gee, maybe this isn't real...I'm just not sure". Add a loup to the process and you should feel safe and secure at any card show. But if you carry around your trusty microscope, when you pull it out the scammers will start cringing and sweating and blubbering and will eventually crack and admit they bought their copies from feldman234 or harley714. Those damned microscopes are intimidating!

But back to you being an idiot...never mind.

Posted By: runscott
Brian - who is Dano anyway? If he really is a redneck he wouldn't have much to say about me - I've got everything but the trailer and Nascar hat ==> truck, hound dog, live in Georgia and a 100% redneck pedigree...oh, but I'm not on welfare, which has many of my Liberal friends assuming I'm a Republican! ...boy, I hate being stereotyped. I actually have one significant quality that is the same as Roy Huff's, which might be why I despise the b*stard so much.
