trimming obsession
Posted By: leon
Hey Folks,
I finally picked up a T222.. Chance. I got the card today and it looks really good. Technically only gd-vg because of the way grading companies are but it looks really sharp and clean. Here is my question though. Does anyone know if the T222 Fatima's were ever differing in sizes or cuts? This one looks really good but a couple of the boarders look suspect. I also KNOW that nowadays we collectors are really picky about the "trimming" possibility on all cards, almost to a fault. I recently sold my E126 Johnson to a fellow board, as previously stated, and he said the same thing about it's boarders. It came back slabbed from SGC......here is a link to the card I bought....thanks in advance for help......btw, since I am at work I have not been able to loupe or measure it yet....best regards

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2722987772

Posted By: petecld
Obsession or common sense. Sorry if I sound harsh but if a collector isn't overly careful regarding trimming these days they are fools.

There is TOO MUCH MONEY involved NOT to be more careful. There are all too many scams out there that has forced collectors to be hyper-careful regarding trimming and I feel it's justified. People are just being careful. YOU know you can be trusted but sadly the truth is that a few bad apples DO taint the whole bunch to some extent.

I know this will sound weird but "thinking" a card is trimmed is like "thinking" a spouse is cheating. Sadly, 99% of the time you're going to be right. In the sale you mentioned you have proven to be in the 1% exception to the rule. It's just the nature of the beast and I wouldn't take it personally. I always tell new collectors that if you are having doubts about a card there is a good reason for that doubt. Trust your instincts. Good instinct is ALWAYS sharper than any exacto-knife.
Posted By: leon
The seller emailed back and and said he would not guarantee the card would grade by SGC. He said I should have asked questions before close of auction. He was right, I should have. Not sure about positive feedback but will probably just not leave any. Although I say "no returns unless I make a material mistake", in my auctions, I have always guaranteed they would grade, unless duly noted in auction, when asked..... Live and learn.....regards all

The guy also told me to tell all of you he was good on his claims and presentation of th cards! Pete is right about the instinct. The guy talked me out of being concerned with dignified e-mails but my original suspicion was that they were bogus!

Posted By: Bill Cornell
The Chance may or may not be trimmed: I wouldn't know without seeing it up close. But I won 2 of the T222's from the group he had up and neither one is fake. I believe you're confusing them with the phony T200's that were mentioned in another thread. Those got pulled off of eBay before they closed.

Posted By: leon
I spoke to Kevin several days ago after the seller told me that is probably where he got it. Kevin just didn't remember this one but may have seen it. He did measure several he had on hand and this one is within the size range. The seller seems like a straight shooter and maybe this is like the Kalamazoo I have that looks "too" pointed on one corner and is in an SGC 70 holder.....the card is probably ok and it looks great....I will probably bring it to the National and take it to be slabbed.....regards
