M116s
Posted By: TBob
I was just wondering if the M116 Sporting Life cards are as scarce and tough to find in EXish or better condition as they seem. I have been checking for them on ebay for the last 5 or 6 weeks and have found a few graded and a few non-graded ones to purchase, but not very many. I have advertised on this board to buy some, especially commons, if anyone has any, but so far no takers. Are they tough? I know that there are a zillion T206s one ebays and bunches of T205s, etc. but the M116s are nowhere to be found. Any ideas? Are they just unpopular or are they very tough and undervalued?
Just wondering...

Posted By: jay behrens
The m116s are simialr to t207 in respect to some cards being very difficult to locate. As for finding high grade examples, it's been my personal experience that m116s seem to have a an abundance of high grade examples around, especially relative to their population. Not sure why this is. All my m116s grade SGC70 or better and I have 2 more that I submitted that should grade out in the same range.

As Andy pointed out, The Wood card is the holy grail of the set. I've seen more t207 Lowdermilk, Miller and Lewis examples than I have m116s Wood cards.

Jay

Posted By: Andy Baran
Bob,

I have seen 3 of the McConnel Chicago cards for sale in the past few years, and the only Smokey Joe that I have seen now resides in my collection. I don't know if it is more rare, but it seems like it may be less available due to it's popularity.

Posted By: jay behrens
Bob, since you seem to like colecting 'painful' sets, why not go for the holy grail of 'painful sets' and try to complete a t208 Fireside set? There's only 18 cards. How tough can it be? :-p

Jay- who really, really regrets selling the 6 he owned

Posted By: Jeff Sherman
If you are interested, I have the M116 McQuillan Cincinnati variation in PSA 7 (only 7, none higher). I also have a Jimmy Walsh Gray Background in PSA 9 (only 1), but, for some reason, it isn't in the population report anymore (it is PSA ID# 05024417). Both can be had, for cash, trade, combo (see my PSA Regsitry sets for an idea of what I collect. Thanks!!
