Posted By: Robert
Hi Scott I for one have never heard of him. And I have been watching vintage cards for a long time. Just because he has good feedback does not mean that he has experience with vintage cards. To me although the scan is not very good the printing does not look right to me. If I was you I would ask for a clearer scan of the card. To me it looks like all the letters are the same size and that would mean it is a reprint. Looks to nice. Rob

Posted By: fkw
The T206 Cobb "bat off" card in auction is a common reprint, and worthless. The easiest way to tell is by looking at the second "B" in COBB and the "D" in Detroit, the gap between these two letters is way too narrow to be real. Another "red flag" is the top and bottom border are too wide overall. Frank

Posted By: runscott
If you contact a bidder prior to the end of the auction it's "tampering" and against ebay rules - heaven forbid someone should be helped out prior to their screwing. So I told him when the auction ended.

Posted By: Brian H.
If you bid and then retract and list as your reason that you "suspect or are concerned that it may not be authentic"
I realize that this is not kosher by ebay but it does seem to be a good way to send a signal.

Posted By: Albie O'Hanian
Brian- I believe ebay changed the rules and now you can only retract a bid if a) you entered the wrong amount b) seller changed the description of the item or c) you cannot contact the seller via email (undeliverable) or phone. I do not think the icon allows you to write in your own reason.

Posted By: runscott
it's important that sellers of fraudulent items be allowed to carry their transactions through to the end without pests like us. Ebay's way of managing these things really fits well with the new American philosopy: If you can screw someone and they don't notice, it don't matter. Now if they DO notice, that's another matter. It's of course in ebay's best interest to see transactions get completed, fraudulent or not; otherwise, their chunk of change ain't as big.

Posted By: Julie Vognar
I've had a "bat off" for 23 years, and the sunset doesn't look like that--it's not that bright. As already mentionerd, the printing is also dufus, asnd the back is wrong.

A real lose-lose situation...

Posted By: runscott
He emailed me (Cobb bat off winner) - several people contacted him. He also contacted the seller who now knows it's a reprint and DOES NOT expect payment. See, we helped ! (and no one's even mad)

Posted By: Julie Vognar
I referred him to the Forum, and this thread. I was afraid it was too late because the auction was already over. All's well that ends well.
