Questions regarding S-74 Silks (White &Colored)
Posted By: Patrick McMenemy
I'd like to help provide additional information on
S-74 Silks, and would appreciate any input from the board members. If I receive enough feedback, I may be able to create an article for the Vintage & Classic Baseball Collector. Although Lew Lipset's, The Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards, provides a great introduction into the this set, additional research is needed to answer the following questions:

The White Silks used several different colored inks to create the players' images. 1) Does anyone know of any additional colors besides the maroon, the blue, and the chocolate brown colored inks? 2)From my limited observations, it seems that maroon ink is found most frequently, followed by the blue, and then the dark brown ink. 3) Is there a black ink variety? 4)Can the White Silks be found with all of the advertising backs, namely: Turkey Red, Old Mill, Helmar, and Red Sun. 5) Can the Colored Silks be found with all of these advertisers as well. 6) Are there any other advertisers? 7) With regards to the Colored Silks, what are ALL the "color" silk variations (i.e. dark pink, light blue, gold, yellow, red, beige, light pink, tan, etc.?)

Thanks for any assistance or scans of S-74 Silks that you might be able to provide!

Patrick.
