pedigree of an ebay auction

Posted By: leon
Just thought I would get a few comments on the makeup of an auction on ebay. Do ya'll look at the bidders (assuming it's not private ) in an auction? I have looked at a few and am always suspicious of ones that have bidders that have not bid on similiar items or have not bid recent enough to have any items still show? I will use my own fairly high dollar auction for instance. I know of most of the bidders and they are all good buyers with monies to buy and recent feedbacks etc......regards all

Posted By: David
It's hard to make judgements on who is bidding and their feedback. For example, I've had several recent expensive autographed items that were won by at the last second by bidders with 0 feedback. At first I thought 'Uh Oh,' but everytime the winner paid with no problem .... Probably like the 19th century bb cards, I do deal, in part, in a specialty area in football photographs where I know all the bidders. I will be suprised if 'Chris' hasn't bid on a particular photograph along his lines and will wonder if he's under the weather.

Posted By: Nick
Leon,
I buy and sell on ebay. If one was to look at my purchases, I buy mostly vintage baseball. I buy cards worth anywhere from $1 to $1,000+. On the other side of the coin, you will also find anything from maternity outfits(for my wife, although if I keep on eating they'll be for me) to curious george stuff for my kid.

As a seller I have sold fairly high dollar stuff to buyers who have no record of card buying. And these have been smooth transactions.

I guess my point is...perception is not always reality.
