Posted By: David
The card is a forgery. It is modern 'fantasy' card made within the last few years.

Posted By: David
The seller contacted me about the card. I had an idea what card he was talking about, but asked that he send me an image before I would offer an opinion. I don't want to call something a forgery only to find out it was something different than I was thinking of. He never sent me an image.

Posted By: David
Thanks Brian. I emailed him a few minutes ago and said that it was a fake.

Though he wouldn't send me an image, he did inquire about the legitimacy of the card. Unless he doesn't end the auction or change the description, it is safe to assume he wasn't he was honest but misinformed. My guess is that he put the card up for sale, then received a lot of conflicting emails about the card.

Posted By: Paul
The same seller is also offering an E135 Joe Jackson. Both the Jackson and the Wagner item have the same story behind them -- purchased from the estate of a 72 year old man. He also claims to have half the E135 set, but only the Jackson is on ebay right now.

I sure hope the Jackson is real, but now have even more concerns than I did before the Wagner came to light. By the way, should E135s be shiny when tilted to the light? This one is.

Paul

Posted By: David
I've never owned a card from the set, so you should turn to someone else on board who has for a definitve answer. However, these types of cards often have a glossy front surface. The type of printing used (photoengraving) required a super smooth surface if the image was to be of high quality.

Considering the seller earlier offered a color Fro Joy Sheet (min bid $4,000 I believe), I, for one, would not bid on the Jackson. Of course, how others bid is not my desion.
Posted By: petecld
David,

I own more then a few E135s and NONE have the heavy gloss this card is showing in the photos. I think this card is a reprint.

This whole set has been reprinted so it's possible every card this guy has is a reprint and like you said, considering the sellers track record, and the fact that on ebay "estate sale" means "reprint" 99.99% of the time I woudln't break the bank on this one.

Posted By: David
Thanks Peter. I should have guessed 'Mr E-card' would have the answer. The sellers' colors will be revealed tomorrow, as we see how he handles the Wagner card auction.

Posted By: Brian Weisner

Hi ALL
I agree with Pete, I've never seen E135's with gloss on the surface. I was willing to give this seller a chance, but obviously he knows that both items are fakes. It's amazing how estate sales only sell Wagner's, Ruth,s Cobb's , and Jacksons. They would be more believable if they mixed in a few Harsell's , Mendosa's, or Mossi's. later brian
