Posted By: Dan Mathewson
...I just sent him this question over eBay. I'll let you know if I hear back.

Pardon me for asking this, but there is so much fraud going on over eBay now, especially with baseball cards, I'm very cautious. I check the item, and sometimes more importantly, i check what the seller says in his auction description. You say about this card "...i would keep it but i need the money..." Yet, eBay's system shows you as having current and recently bid on over 400 items in the last 30 days. Seems rather contradictory...wouldn't you agree? I just like to understand where people are coming from...statements like this shed doubt on the validity of an auction and make people think there is a reason for a seller's "desperation to sell a card because he needs the money" when, in fact, he's bidding and buying like crazy. It makes one suspect immediately for creating an untrue distraction. Just curious. Thanks. -dan

Posted By: Tom A
This caught my eye also because he has outbid me on several T206 auctions lately; was kindof surprised with the "needing money" statement for this auction (after seeing everything he had bid on), but I figured that with the amount of stuff he had won in the past couple of weeks, if he was an inherently bad ebayer, the negatives would start rolling in.

So that was how i rationalized placing a bid on the card (since i still need it for the set). Of course i got outbid, so its moot anyways.

Nobody would give me more than $50 for my beautiful rookie Frank Robinson! I finally asked someone why. "People don't like him," the guy said.

Still have a rookie Robinson, but it's centered a little high. How'd I happen to have two? Bought the --ach, you know, ____'s meats, 1957, too. I don't care if you liked him or not!

My gorgeous Radbourne.

By the way, that's the way he spelled it. (see SABR
Our National Pastime, 1985.

Posted By: Tom A
Huh. just noticed he has 39 bid retractions since Sept. 25. Hope whoever won it doesn't get screwed, but I'm glad I got outbid.

Posted By: Bigb13
How does ebay allow 39 bid retractions. And now he is bidding on a Magie Error. Which is near 500.00.

Posted By: Bruce Moreland
I routinely sell stuff because I need money. I don't say that in my auctions, because it seems kind of obvious. If I did say it, people would see me buying and selling cards from the same set.

He didn't say that he needs money to pay for an operation for his grandma. For all we know, he needs money to buy more cards.

The thing that bothers me about this guy is the bid retractions. There is little excuse to have one bid retraction, much less 39.

bruce
Posted By: Tom A
I'm glad you posted this... suddenly I am the high bidder on an auction that I never was winning, because GrandeSalami500 got booted. So i don't have email confirmation that I ever bid on it (my max bid was less than his). Nice coding Ebay.
