The shortstop and the error
Posted By: Julie Vognar
Having just got a Ward on a card of his own, I looked up his confusing record again--another pitcher who converted. But what had always bugged me about Ward was that he led the league in errors every year he played. Over 900 altogether.

So then I had a brainstorm: he was a shortstop, and the fields were awful. Looked up Wagner: over 800. Then looked up Banks: about 200.

And some others. Shortstops always make the most errors, but as conditions imporved, they made less and less.
