P & S.As a generalization which I believe is true, all cards which come with both the player's names on the front and the player's names on the back are more popular (and more valuable) with the names on the front. In Barry Sloate's great VCBC article on Peck and Snyder cards he pictured the trade card, not the CdV. Nice try Andy <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14>.<BR>However, needless to say they are both nice cards.

The other Peck & Snyder team cards were also Trade Cards, so he may have tried to be consistent. He has offered to purchase my CDV from me in the past, so I know that he is not opposed to them. Also, the Standard Catalog used a photo of the CDV for years, not the Trade Card. They also list the CDV as more valuable, not that I necessarily believe it is true. I do believe that the CDV is more rare than the Trade Card, and most of the Trade Cards are trimmed. I take an untrimmed card over a trimmed one any day.<BR><BR>I think that the value of a Peck & Snyder, regardless of which type it is, is determined mainly by condition.

Posted By: <b>Jay Miller</b><p>Auction realization on undamaged cards of both type show that the trade card is the more valuable card and it isn't even close. The trade card is also part of a "set" which, to my way of thinking, makes it more desireable. The trade card is very fragile so undamaged specimens are rare. I am not saying that the CdV is not marketable and would not be purchased by a dealer. Barry would buy a dead horse for a dollar if he could sell it for two. All I am saying is that the trade card is the preferable piece. If you doubt what I am saying---ask Barry.

Both the CDV and Trade Card were produced by Peck & Snyder in 1869<BR>2.) Many of the CDV's (mine included) are also trade cards, they just happen to have the player names on the back with the advertising<BR>3.) Leon purchased his Trade Card (easily one of the nicest in the hobby) from a major auction house. I recently had a DEALER offer me several thousand more for my CDV than he paid for his Trade Card in auction.<BR>4.) So few Peck & Snyders are sold (at widely varying prices) that it is not easy to make generalizations regarding their prices<BR>5.) Many factors effect the price of these cards (condition, clarity of photo, who is looking for one at the time of the sale, supply, who is selling, etc.)<BR>6.) Not all Trade Cards have sold for more than CDV's<BR>7.) Both cards are "REAL"<BR><BR>OPINION:<BR>Based on the facts, it is MY OPINION that the CDV is no less (or more) legitimate, important, or valuable than the Trade Card.<BR><BR>You are also welcome to YOUR OPINION, but please do not state it as FACT. Thanks.

I would suggest that you call Barry, or Lew Lipset for that matter, and get their view directly. I'm sure that they will verify that the trade card is generally believed to be more desireable than the CdV. However, I do agree that we have taken this discussion farther than it needs to go. They are both great cards; I think we can both agree on that.
