To Ya'll- the personal attack folks & poetic justice

Posted By: leon
Please shut up about personal crap and let's get back to talking about vintage baseball cards.....my absolute favorite topic......nothing personal against any of you as I don't care to get into more public (personal) debates....remember it takes TWO to argue........but while I am here I will tell a short story about a poetic justice that happened yesterday to me and does have a vintage card aspect to it........it is personal but still pretty good....then I promise I will heed my own advice......SO ya'll know that not too long ago I had been outbid for the last card of the m101-back set that I need (for ones that I know of). Some very stupid person bid about $900 more than that lot was worth and I let them have it....as I don't have that kind of money to throw away......well, I walked into work this previous Monday to an email telling me that my last card I need was being sent to me that day and I could just pay whatever I wanted for it....you see on that issue what comes around goes around....and in the same night that I lost the card (Collectible Classics auction) my softball team that I manage, and play on, got disqualified for one of our guys saying the G.D. word.....now, it was our fault as we had a collective warning but usually a player will get at least one personal warning....he didn't and we lost immediately as we didn't have as many players as we started with (which is a rule).....in the same game I hit my first ever, (and I am 40 and have always played some kind of base/softball), home run over the fence.....even more to that feat was the fact the guy up before me had pulled his hamstring and could barely walk and got a single to center field...so unless I put it out of the park he was going to be out....talk about a lifetime clutch hit.....we both walked slowly around the bases...I was as proud as a hen with 5 new chic's, and then later that night came the auction debacle............. Well, last night (Wed.) was the final game of the season and there was a 3 way tie for first with us and 2 other teams....we had beat one of them and had the DQ-loss with the other one....so it looked like a 3 way tie for first....that would have been a bummer.....our game was against an 0-5 team and they no showed so we won by forfeit....the next game was the team we had a DQ with and our only loss so I stayed and watched it.......in the 3rd inning one of their guys cussed for the second time and got thrown out of the game...they didn't have enough players and got disqualified....so we win the league.....to recap one of the worst nights for me recently I now have the card on the way, that I need ( for far less money ) and we won the softball league I am in.......regards all...

Posted By: Dan Mathewson
...for writing this post.

I am a little shocked, actually... I came into this Vintage Card Bulletin Board to discuss Vintage Cards; Auctions (the good auctions to look out for and the bad auctions to look out for); eBay - since so many cards come up there and because I met so many cool people on this Board from trading on eBay; Grading Companies (the good and the bad)...the many, many interesting facets of Vintage Card Trading.

I expect from time to time that we folks here, as friends, should be warning each other about shills, bogus auctions/cards, and the like... I appreciate that a lot, actually (and I only wish I had gotten a slightly sooner warning about bocotton on eBay, for example, but at least I could pass my bad, dishonorable experience with him on to everyone here as a warning...)

What I didn't expect was the childish and bigoted personal attacks, absolutely foul language and evil, hateful constant dialogue that an extreme minority (basically one) works into almost EVERY thread on this board. I can't believe it. Time and time again, regardless of the thread title or direction of the conversation, WHAM!! It swoops in and lashes out a random, hateful and viscious personal attack on virtually anyone in the thread...completely disassociated from the specific topic, and way off base from Vintage Cards.

I think it's a shame that the psychologically unbalanced tirades continue to degrade the quality of conversation, friendly warnings about illegal and unethical trading behavior, healthy discussions and occasional friendly arguments we all have here. Maybe there is hope that the board can soon return to a more civilized, less hateful and bigoted discourse and all members here can enjoy each other's postings without the 3rd-grade level personal attacks and name-calling.

Posted By: Dr.Koos
...but curtail it down to once a week. Say, Mondays! Mostly everybody is all pissed off anyway on Mondays and it may be good to know you can blow off some steam at least once a week! We can do a Roast!! Nominate someone the week in advance, Vote on it (separate nominating/voting thread) and then just for that Monday, from 12 noon to midnight, it's anything goes! Since Dan, RunScott, Jay, Brueso, David, and myself have MORE than done our fair share of pie-throwing this past 3 weeks (I'm STILL trying to get the Lemon marangue stains out of the carpet), sensibly, we're all out of the running for an upcoming Monday Board Roast. So I'm going to nominate Leon for the first "guest of honor" appearance. I've got a hunch that his blood pressure and pulse never elevated more than a few percentage points and he remained quite even keeled while the melee ensued around him, and I just think he's due!!

So here's my official nomination:

LEON______.
