Any V89 Wm. Paterson Experts Out There?
Posted By: Paul
Are there any experts out there on the 1920s V89 William Paterson cards from Canada? I have owned only one of these cards for many years. It's printed on thin white paper. I remember reading (somewhere) that the entire Paterson set may have been issued only in proof form. So, the thin paper stock would make sense.

I recently purchased two more cards from this set, and both of them are on card stock. It's very thin card stock, but definitely card stock, not plain paper. Also, the cards have a definite off-white tone, not pure white, like my paper one. None of the three cards would grade any better than VG, so I doubt that any of them are reproductions.

If any of you have seen these two types of cards before, or have any more information, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Paul

Posted By: brian parker
I am by no means an expert on this issue, as I only own one card, but as far as I know this set was issued on card stock (like my example). My card has an off-white border color, but then again, it is off-condition and thus has some toning. And I have never heard of 'proofs' of this set--these cards are pretty uncommon as it is. And where in the heck is Brantford, Canada, which is printed on the bottom of the card? It is definitely an interesting set, and considering the scarcity, I believe the cards are undervalued.

I remember seeing a near complete set of these auctioned off around 8-10 years ago (either a Ron Oser or Robert Edwards auction) in lower grade--where's that link to the time machine when you need it?

Brian
