Posted By: <b>Elliot&nbsp; </b><p>I recently purchased some cards that just reek of cigarette smoke. As soon as I opened up the bubble mailer the smell was obvious. The funny thing is they are not even tobacco cards <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> (World Wide Gums). I'm afraid to put them in with the rest of my cards, for fear the odor will transfer. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell?

Posted By: <b>brian</b><p>Dear Elliot<BR> The lingering smell associated with Cigarette smoke is nothing more than the tar residue which has adhered to any surface which is cooler than the tar. The previous owner probably enjoyed a few packs as he gazed at his collection. The only way to get rid of the smell is to get them slabbed. be well brian

Posted By: <b>Julie Vognar</b><p>I keep my cards in a wood and glass case under three linen tablecloths. It isn't just the smell; Mark Macrae tells me when he buys collections from smokers there's always a problem with browning--not all the cards, but some.

Posted By: <b>brian</b><p>The browning is the tar Julie and it's impossible to get rid of. As long as you keep the cards under plastic or glass the tar can't attatch itself to the card , but will adhere to the glass or another cool object. I live in Winston-Salem, NC where you can still smell the sweet smell of tobacco when the factories are up wind. I have never even takin a puff, but I'm glad others have so that we have the great tobacco cards to collect. be well brian
