Any Allen & Ginter experts?

Posted By: jay behrens
I am curious if anyone knows anything about or is familiar with tobacco stainning on the A&G cards from the N28 and N29 sets. I have not handled enough of them to know taht much and with my N2 Indian Chiefs set growing by leaps and bounds, I am seeing strange staining paterns that are not consistant with glue/album stains but aren't consistant with tobacco stains that I am familiar with. I also have 2 cards with stains that look like grill marks and seem to be too close together to be from cigarettes. I forgot to scan those but can do it if someone wants to see it. Any help would be appreciated.

htpp://home.earthlink.net/~sabrjay1/back.jpg

Posted By: Keith O'Leary
I agree with Scott, glue stains. As for the grill pattern, I've run across that too. I think the pattern comes from the album adhesive also. The albums I'm talking about were sold as picture albums with the adhesive already applied to the pages in this pattern.

Posted By: jay behrens
Thanks for the info. I am submitting one of the cards to SGC just to see hard they hammer it for the stain. If it's really bad, I will crack it and let the card run free again.

Jay

Posted By: scott brockelman
i have seen these albums, primarily used for photgraphs, they had a closely laid out pattern of wax? which basically adhered to the back but still made the photo removable, however with more porous paper it sometimed adhered with age or bled into the card.

Posted By: warshawlaw
I think it is a tobacco stain because it stank of tobacco. Since it appeared nm otherwise, I sent it to SGC also to see what they'd grade it.

Posted By: runscott
...and then do some trading. There are some nice lots in the non-ebay auctions that we could buy also. I'm especially interested in those albums - I'm willing to pay way over book for them.
