Posted By: runscott
I read this about 20 years ago in one sitting - it was actually required reading for my sister in college back in the late '70s! If you really like it, look for the VHS version.

Posted By: Cy
Amazon.com has a CD with the actual interviews of the players. I listened to the 4-CD set driving down to Myrtle Beach this summer. It is very good. I think Amazon.com sells it for around $30 including shipping. If you haven't heard this, it is very good.

Cy

glory of their times
Posted By: runscott
Thanks for reminding us about this book - I'm re-reading it. Just finished "Honus Wagner" by the Devalerias and I'm almost through with "Cobb" by Al Stump. "Cobb" is one you can't put down - much better than the movie it spawned. The Wagner book is loaded with facts but doesn't really bring him to life the way Stump does Cobb. Any suggestions on other books about vintage ballplayers?

Posted By: Kevin Cummings
Although these books aren't about specific players, I am fascinated by the way Bill James creates statistics different than the usual "baseball numbers" we are all used to seeing and weaves them in to support his assertions about baseball history.

You might want to check out the recently released Historical Baseball Abstract and his previously published Whatever Happened to the Hall of Fame?
