Just curious lately.

While you check out pre-WWII cards on eBay do you sometimes have to fight against hiccups from laughing so much on Buy It Now prices? To put it mildly, entertaining. Still have to wonder as well what drugs were combined with alcohol to get to the prices asked.

It's not just pre-war it is EVERYTHING. If you think eBay is bad check out COMC it is a dumpster fire at best. There are cards that have several hundred copies already listed that don't sell because they are extremely overpriced. Then someone will add more that are several times the price of the cheapest examples already listed. They need to raise storage fees or something to remove the majority of overpriced garbage that wouldn't sell if reduced to 25% of what they are priced at now.

For fun you can look and easily find cards that have been sitting on there for several years.

I've pretty much abandoned eBay and just shop here and Facebook, where there are still deals to be had, even if there isn't much volume.

I get people wanting to get their 13.25% eBay fee back, but so many prices are just laughable.

I recently wanted to do a very quick flip on a card so I used their Promoted add on. It worked and the card sold in a few hours. Buyer paid $542.50 all in and I received $357.01 after fees.

While I'm taking a brief pause in my collecting, due to the sky-high prices of practically everything I want, I'll say this much; I'm rarely, if ever buying cards on Ebay anymore. Chances are if I want to find something, I'll make a post about it on here, or one of the few facebook groups I'm apart of. I'd much rather do most of my purchasing, here. Maybe an occasional auction house, I've purchased from Heritage a couple of times. Wheatland as well.

With the vast wealth of knowledge and members we have, it's become much easier just to make a post on here. Especially with people I've dealt with before on the site. No Fees, no kickbacks, just a normal transaction.

Wow…that’s bad.

Remember that the value of any collectible is what someone will pay cash for. I shoot high on BIN's when listing but I always leave it open to offers. Make an offer, I might take it. Also, sellers don't sell on ebay to be a good Christian, they do it to make a profit. That's the name of the game so you can't fault someone for trying to make a profit. If their number isn't your number, reach out and make an offer. No harm in that and I accept offers all the time.

I see your point, but honestly, I'm pretty immune to it now. Some are people hoping some dope will pay an outrageous price, spur of the moment. And some are just people showing off, they want to say, "Look, I've got a five or six figure card for sale on ebay!"

It's nothing new.

That's a typo or an error, right?

Sounds about right, particularly if you agreed to pay extra for the promotion. I’m guessing that some of that cost to the buyer is also sales tax, which you were never going to see anyway.

No typo and I know I am happy and can guarantee the buyer is also. Their Promoted listings are not cheap if you actually want them promoted. I believe I paid an extra 13% on top of their regular fees.

I got an insane deal on a large lot of cards. I knew I could sell one card and cover all my costs plus make $50 at that rate. The buyer got a deal at that price also. I just didn't want to sit on a $700 card any longer than needed.
