Open for Bidding - Love of the Game's Fall, 2025 Auction

Hi all:

First of all, thanks for all the super nice comments on our Fall Auction Preview. I didn't want to bump another LOTG thread so I'll just thank you here.

Second, the LOTG Fall auction is now OPEN for bidding! Closing date is Saturday, November 29 - the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Some really special prewar items in this one, including a couple of different pieces I wanted to highlight here.

Probably my favorite piece in the auction is a series of documents related to the sale of the Cincinnati Reds to the Players' League in 1890. Not a lot of people are aware of this, but John Ward arranged for a consortium of folks to buy the Reds at the end of the 1890 season, with the goal of eliminating the Buffalo team and replacing them with the Reds in the Players' League in 1891. The deal went through, but then the Players' League folded, prompting a bunch of last minute legal wrangling to get the Reds sold again and back into the National League in time for the 1891 season. Our Lot #4 is a lot of contracts (some handwritten) and court documents governing all those transactions, many signed by team owners and representatives from the 19th Century. Really great stuff.

Another favorite of mine is what I think is the greatest Zeenut in existence - a Joe DiMaggio throwing pose, WITH coupon (the second-highest graded), with a period autograph on the back. I can't think of a more desirable Zeenut.

Speaking of the Yankee Clipper, we've got a nice copy of his 1936 World Wide Gum rookie card. Though we see his Play Ball, R312, R314, and '38 Goudey cards with reasonable frequency, we don't see this WWG card frequently, especially nice midgrade examples.

Another favorite is a complete, PSA-Graded E120 set. I don't know why, but I really love this issue, and while they don't seem rare, I just don't see them a lot.

There are a ton of other great type cards, including what I think is one of our best 19th Century offerings, a bunch of really tough PCL issues, a complete Big Head set offered card-by-card, a nearly-complete T222 Fatima set offered card-by-card.

We've also got a killer memorabilia offering this time around, which I love, including a lot of great large format pieces, a ton of great scorecards, and lots of Cuban cards and memorabilia (check out that Oscar Charleston).

If you're so inclined, check out the auction here: https://bid.loveofthegameauctions.com/Lots/Gallery

Good luck to all our bidders and consignors!

I just got into vintage like 18 months ago, but seems like there are a lot more Old Judges coming up for sale recently — and NICE ones.
