Not Jackson, he wasn’t convicted on the State charges either.

Are we talking about constitutional norms now?

As a personal matter, my strong preference is to not let people off easy for tax evasion.

It just encourages more hooligans to push the envelope and figure they'll get off easy. But I suppose that partially springs from being a CPA myself.
