Heritage item ending tonight wrong descrription
Hi Gang:
A little last minute, but hopefully I can help someone not bid on a wrongly ID'ed item in the Heritage auction ending tonight. See: https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-c...kedLots-101116 Not only is the player misidentified, it is Lee May of the Reds without the "e" Not Lee Maye who stated with the Braves as is titled. Plus it can not be from 1960 because Lee May did not sign with the Reds until June 1, 1961 according to Baseball Register. I just notified Heritage but doubt they will be able to change it this late. In fact I just received a reply from them saying how important my inquiry is and a promise to get back to me within 2 weeks!! |

The hat is a 1961-1966 era Reds cap.

They really dropped the ball on this one. No effort put in, whatsoever. Reds didn't wear that particular vest until 1962. Super-cool piece though... The Big Bopper from Birmingham!
|
Another problem lot. This is not authentic or of the era. Reproduction with a few contrived mouse bites. Buyer beware...

Have to really wonder about HA sometimes.
I send them an image a few years back of a type 1 photograph of Gehrig used on one of his earlier cards in the mid 1920s and they responded with a blow off and some comment like "if the card had some special significance, for example if it was used in an important card, we might be interested in the photo. . . ." Yeah was just Gehrig's W590 strip card image from 1925-31. And it said that on the PSA flip. |

No rational person (much less collector) would ever call that NM condition. Even if it was authentic/of the era, the edge damage would be a non-starter for me. Pennant grading is not as strict as card grading (it's more like the pre-TPG grading of cards). But if I listed that pennant, I would state that it's a reproduction pennant in G-VG condition. |
