Edward Abbaticchio cut

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,

I acquired this cut in a large group of early football autographs (Jimmie Timbers collection). Ed Abbaticchio played for the Latrobe football team from around 1895-1900. However he was also a decent professional baseball player from 1897-1910. The cut appears to be from a state license. Any thoughts amongst baseball autograph collectors on value and/or rarity?

Cheers!

Mark

Ask T206Collector. He would know best.

Hi Mark

He is pretty rare but not scarce. He can be found, but that is a pretty bold example for a cut. Value likely in the 250-400 range unless things have changed dramatically since the last time I sold one.

That’s great. Thanks Rhys.

Relative Scarcity of T206 Player Autographs

I put Ed Abbaticchio in the fourth ("very difficult") category of the Top 100 easiest to find T206 player autographs. So, out of the 391 total players in the set, about 75 or so different player autographs are easier to find.

The relative scarcity of T206 common player autographs after the 100 listed here is nearly the same because there are so few, or even just no examples in the hobby. Indeed, over 100 of the exemplars in existence for common players beyond the 100 identified here are found only in the World War 1 draft registration cards that are available digitally on the National Archives website. And in some of those cases (e.g., Dutch Revelle) the registration card was signed by a surrogate because the player was illiterate.

Wow! What fantastic research Paul. This is perfect. Thank you very much.
