2002 Topps e-Topps inserts
1 Attachment(s)
I'm working on a 2002 Topps master set. I've had the 5 cards pictured below on the right in my collection since taking them from packs 23 years ago. They are e-Topps ads featuring Clemens, Garciaparra, Gonzalez, Piazza and Pujols.
TCDB doesn't even list them as inserts, which is odd because they list some of the most random, long-forgotten advertising ephemera that were contained inside Topps packs over the years. Without that, I have no checklist. I assumed I had the whole set because I ripped a LOT in 2002, and only ever got these 5. But, I looked on eBay to see if I was missing any, and sure enough a Bonds showed up (left, below). It was the only other one I could find, so I assumed I was missing it and ordered it. It is identical in every way with the others right down the the copyright data on the reverse. BUT - while the other 5 are on regular card stock, the Bonds is thick, almost like relic card thick. So - here's my question - was the Bonds thick card pulled from some other 2002 Topps set? If so, does there are thick versions of the other 5 out there somewhere, and a thin version of the Bonds? Appreciate any help with this mystery. |
I don't have your answer, but I do remember getting and saving those cards as well. They are sorted away, by player, in boxes. Waiting for me to retire so I can finish consolidating all of my boxes together and finally see just how many of each player I actually have.
Since those were advertising ETopps, they probably could have been issued in any or all types of Topps product that year. I was not buying new packs anymore by 2002, except on a very rare instance here and there, so I am not help there. |

Can't answer your question, but COMC has a grouping of them for sale. |
