1921 Tip Top Bread - Grade (large scan)

Here is another to add to the list of head scratchers. This is poor?
I don't see anything except some super light, almost non existent, wrinkles that can't be seen unless tilted. Personally, I would call this VG'ish (even in today's grading)....

I couldn't agree more! I have no idea what they are looking at these days.

Sure looks better than a 1 to me! That’s hard to believe.

They’ve become absurd!

When I inquired about the Eppa that is posted in the other thread I was old that I didn't pay enough to get the graders notes.....I'm pretty sure I paid a decent chuck for one card LOL I paid up, but I guess not "up" enough.

Ridiculous.

If I had a 1 that looked that good, I would break it out and resubmit. That is a 2.5/3 all day and twice on Sunday if they worked on Sunday.

Hard to believe they claim to look at the card after grading to insure it is accurate. I guess that is only if it is over graded!

I think I see what triggered it now. Upon further inspection, there is an almost imperceptible, 1/16? of an inch tear, in the front, and rear of the card. It is below the I in Orioles, at the bottom of the card. You might not be able to see it on screen.
It should have still graded higher (.5?), but that has to be what triggered it. I thought I inpsected the edges well enough, but hadn't.

Great card

It’s a heckuva card grade aside

Not like you can just jump on eBay any day of the week and upgrade it. Good luck finding a single example from that set for anything other than an absurd price.

Even with the invisible tear, what "service" is the grading company providing by giving this a grade of 1. The grade is supposed to distinguish this card from other cards to help potential buyers make an informed judgment about the condition of the card. If this card gets lumped together with a card that has a hundred creases -- or if it grades LOWER than a card with one crease -- that purpose is not being served.

Grading makes 0 sense many times. I got this card 2 days ago. There is a tiny surface wrinkle in the upper left corner and some wear (as seen) to the edges. If I were selling it I would call it vg.

There’s no point in submitting to PSA anymore except to safeguard the card inside the holder.

I swear if these are 1s, then most of my stuff is 0!

The main reason I don't submit my cards is that I wouldn't want to force the grading card companies to reinvent the wheel and begin designating cards with negative number grades.
