Mets & Yankees headed in the wrong direction

Do neither make the Playoffs now? Or will one or both turn it around?

I believe both are in the 3rd wild card position right now. About 42 games or so to go, so plenty of time.

BobbyStrawberry 08-10-2025 07:52 PM

I predict they will both make it. As a Mets fan I would love to see the Yankees fall out of contention though :D Maybe Boone will finally get the pink slip he has deserved for awhile now.

Yankees seem to go through a swoon like this every year, but this one seems worse then usual. I'm not sure they finish the season above .500 at this point.

The bullpen is full of guys who might have been lights out a couple years ago, or in a different environment, but are absolutely atrocious this year.

Lineup is back to being nearly useless without Judge fully healthy.

Think Judge's injury might be worse then they're letting on. He wasn't able to throw the ball 60 feet just a couple of weeks ago. As somebody who has had elbow issues, that's not something that just "clears up" in a few months, let alone a few weeks.

The Mets collapse has been so utterly complete that every time you put them on, you know they're going to f*ck everything up and lose again. They invent new ways to let their lead suddenly disappear each and every game.

It's your basic horror movie where every single person watching knows exactly how the film/game is going to end.

I can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yankees are up 1-0 right now! All is good!

I find it hard to watch the Mets. I still think Juan Soto is going to be a net negative for this team. He has bad aura.

The Yankees are 118-44 against the Twins over their last 162 games including playoffs. That's a .728 winning percentage.

How could a generational talent, at worst the third best batter on the planet, be a net negative?

We shall see if they get into the WS this year. They made it to the NLCS last year with Lindor leading the team.

It may not make sense from a stats standpoint, but having watched many, if not most, of the Mets games this year, I think Soto detracts from the mojo of the team.

He's definitely his own guy, and seems kinda apart from the core that was here before him. I'm not sure if that's what you mean. Personally I think they'll be fine...the playoffs is always a crapshoot once you get there. Hopefully they can overcome the inevitable Edwin Diaz meltdowns.

Yankees got to the World Series with Soto last year so he seemed to be ok with them.

The Nationals actually won the WS (2019) the year after Bryce Harper left.

So ya never know, sometimes a team does better without the BIG superstar.

Good example. Of course, the Nationals had Soto that year.

I don't understand. I see nothing wrong with the direction in which the two teams are heading.

He didn't have $765 million in his pocket and a bad attitude back then. Right now, the Mets' best hope to get to the World Series is that the Phillies collapse and the Dodgers bullpen continue with their yips.

Balticfox 08-13-2025 09:47 AM

The Mets are at .538 right now. There's no guaranty that they'll actually qualify for the playoffs.

:)

bk400 08-14-2025 07:28 AM

Yeah, it is definitely not a foregone conclusion that the Mets make the playoffs.

I don't see the Phillies snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and the Brewers look like the WS favorites right now. So the Mets are looking at the Dodgers or the Padres in early October, if they make it. The Dodgers bullpen continues to look like Roki Sasaki in April, and Ohtani kind of sharted the bed on the mound, both of which trends are helpful to the Mets on balance. The Padres look good right now, and that's a problem.

One thing is clear: the National League is much stronger than the American League. If the Yankees played in the National League, they'd probably look like the Angels. Or maybe the Cardinals.

Balticfox 08-14-2025 10:27 AM

Actually the Cardinals always look good:

Whether they play well is another question.

;)

JollyElm 08-14-2025 05:44 PM

Last night the Mets yet again squandered another huge lead (6-0) and ended up getting destroyed. It keeps growing more and more pathetic by the day.

bk400 08-14-2025 07:35 PM

They had a characteristically bad game again just now also.

90feetaway 08-14-2025 08:12 PM

Yankees fan here...they are toast. Bats roll over against good starters, lack fundamentals, Max Fried looks like a shadow of his May self.
