Current '63 Rose at Greg Morris eBay

It could be that I am simply out of touch with the current marketplace, even though I just completed a run of 65-68 Topps sets over the last 4 years.

And I know the quality of the cards listed by GM - I've used his site as one of the primary means of completing those sets.

BUT - with a day and a half left, this raw Rose rookie is sitting above $5K?

I THINK I see some wear on the bottom left corner, and a couple tiny spots of white around the blue, plus there's the color registration issue that has produced a thin green band between the yellow and blue.

All that nit-picking aside - it will be interesting to see how high this goes.

But even in today's market, does this seem a bit overboard? I plan on completing a '64 set by the spring, and then will turn to '63 - oh, my.

Well, seems like a PSA 7 would sell for about that price range these days.

So maybe it’s not too far off? Just a question of whether you really think it could get a 7. Maybe some of the bidders are thinking it might even get a 7.5 or 8 with the centering.

For my money, I’d rather just buy one already graded. With my luck, it would come back at PSA 5.

The sets I build, SGC 4-5 is usually a very nice condition, and those seem to be getting 1500-2200 or so, so when it comes to needed to get one in a couple years or so, hopefully things will have remained as-is, or perhaps even settled down a bit.

Looks like a solid 7 to me. He sold a PSA 7 a few months ago for $5300. I would prefer to have it over this one but as previously stated, maybe bidder is hoping for 7.5, No way it gets an 8 in today's world although you might find an 8 graded 10 years ago that looks worse.

With my luck, I would never buy something assuming that the card is going to grade a PSA7. If I wanted a PSA7 I would just buy one already graded and pay a bit extra to be sure.

Well, it went for $5,700.

Screen shots would probably be better than links going forward.

The link redirects to a totally different example from a different seller.

It’s certainly a nice looking card, but if buying for my PC these days and not just simply taking a huge gamble - I don’t know why anyone would buy a card of that magnitude not already in a reputable slab.

I guess the risk is limited enough in that it would have to go through eBay authentication and eBay would have to agree with the description - but still. What if both Greg Morris and eBay concur it’s a NM or higher card, and then PSA calls it Minsize?

Too much drama for my blood. I’m very content with this card in my SGC 4 holder, LOL.

When I start actively looking for one, it'll be in an SGC 4 holder as well...

Looking at the PSA Auction Prices Realized site, four PSA 7s sold (I assume on eBay) this year:

May 23, 2025 eBay Auction 07008723 7 $5,300.00
May 17, 2025 eBay Auction 06280652 7 $4,700.00
Feb 4, 2025 eBay Auction 20692694 7 $3,950.00
Jan 16, 2025 eBay Auction 40856438 7 $1,225.00

Based on this limited data, the card/grade continues to trend upwards, and the buyer bought the one in question for $400 more than the highest price AND that amount doesn't take into account the (I assume) massive grading fees to come.

The only logical conclusion that makes sense is the buyer must truly believe he'll be looking at a PSA 8.

With a PSA 7 (and perhaps a little time), he'll basically break even.

Anything lower than a PSA 7?? Bend over, baby!!

It's just more gambling, like everything else surrounding baseball.
