Need help on an inverted stamp
1 Attachment(s)
Hi curious as to opinions as to value on this stamp belonging to my wife’s family
|
hard to say for certain from a scan but it certainly looks real and tied to the cover. You could seek out a stamp show or store in your area.
Really needs to be examined by a third party such as APS or the Philatelic Foundation https://stamps.org/services/stamp-authentication https://www.philatelicfoundation.org/ |
Thanks I’m 100 percent it’s good the envelope is whole and letter inside mentions the stamp. It’s been in the family since 1930. I am sensing it has enough value to merit finding an expert.

Need help on an inverted stamp
From stampostage.info. About 3/4 way through the article:
Are there any notable variations or errors associated with the Red 2 Cent George Washington stamp? Yes, the Red 2 Cent George Washington stamp is notable not just for its standard issue but also for its variations and printing errors. One of the most famous is the inverted center, where the image of Washington is misaligned in the design. Such errors are exceedingly rare and can be worth thousands to collectors who have the opportunity to acquire them. Other variations might include color shifts or differences in perforation; these subtle changes can often go unnoticed unless closely examined. Collectors also look for specific plate number stamps that provide insight into production runs. For instance, certain plate numbers indicate the stamp was produced during high-demand periods, impacting its scarcity and value. This attentiveness to detail can significantly benefit collectors both for personal collections and investment purposes. Staying connected with fellow collectors through forums, clubs, or at auction houses can yield more information about any new discoveries or variations that may arise. Good luck seems like a winner! You’ll need to speak to a reputable dealer… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
