The Memorial Cup and the London Knights!

The Memorial Cup has been awarded since 1919 to the top Junior hockey team in Canada and since 1976 North America.

The Memorial Cup now has the status of being the second most celebrated hockey trophy in the world after the Stanley Cup.

The Memorial Cup championship has been determined since 1983 in a four team tournament involving the champions of the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (which together comprise the Canadian Hockey League) plus the home team hosting the championship that year. (Consideration is given to which teams might be very good when the site of the championship is being decided.) There are currently a total of sixty teams in the three Leagues.

After losing a Championship Final heartbreaker to the home team Saginaw Spirit in 2024, the London Knights won the Memorial Cup earlier this week with a 4-1 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Championship Final game.

The London Knights have been perennial contenders in the last nineteen Memorial Cup competitions dating back to 2005 with seven tournament appearances, five Championship Final games and three victories.

The London Knights have also been winners at the box office. They've been at or near the top in CHL attendance since the 2002-03 season. Here are the top CHL per game attendance figures for the 2024-25 season:

Québec Remparts - 9805
London Knights - 9060
Halifax Moosekeads - 8221
Edmonton Oil Kings - 7527
Kitchener Rangers - 6619
Spokane Chiefs - 6588

It should however be mentioned that the seating capacity of the Videotron Centre where the Québec Remparts play is 18,259 while the seating capacity of Canada Life Place(previously called the John Labatt Centre) where the Knights play is only 9036.

Patrick Kane played for the Knights and then he went on to win all those cups with the Blackhawks.
One of the best I ever saw.
