Miscut??! Hmmm…
Why would they call this miscut? I can’t fathom why they would shoot themselves in the foo I mean if this card is miscut then so are 95% of cards.

“What does “Miscut” mean? This means our inspection of the card shows evidence of a factory cutting flaw, such as an edge not getting cut clean and square.”
Miscut as in it’s short or not cut right, not miscut as in showing another adjacent card from the sheet like we normally use the word to mean. |
In my experience, when GMC lists a "miscut" it never refers to whether the image is cut off like most of us would think. Rather, they mean that the card has an odd cut along one edge. If you look closely at this one, especially on the reverse, I think you can see the left edge by the trademark line skews outward a bit. I think that's what they mean.

Ah, now: Don’t confuse the Miscut qualifier with the N8 Miscut rejection code…[emoji3061]

Sent this 1968 Topps #280 Mickey Mantle into PSA with the expectation of a nice grade...only to have it sent back to me unholdered with a MISCUT designation.
(Point of note: there are no centering issues on the back.) It was the first time I heard of 'miscut' meaning anything other than a card being sliced so badly that parts of the image were missing. The reason for it is, if you look at the lower half of the left side, it sort of balloons out a bit, so it doesn't form a straight-lined edge. Later on (to get it in a slab), I sent it to SGC with the 'holder if authentic' boxed checked, and they put the dreaded MISCUT on the label. Which is better, I guess, simply for the fact that AUTHENTIC alone without an explanation hints at something possibly nefarious. Attachment 661360 Since Topps cut it this way at the factory (and it's nicely centered), I wish they would just put a frickin' number on it. Total BS!! |

SGC was 7/6/2022, and the AG was instituted for graded cards on 5/2/2022. However, the AG for graded cards only confirms that the card is labeled properly and the holder is not compromised, not whether or not the grade is accurate. So I don't think AG led to SGC's changes at all. I think the trimming scandal is the most likely reason they added the clarity to the Altered flips. |

My original response to this post was in reference to a raw card, not the PSA 2 that is now present when you click on the OP's link. Screen grab from actual item: |
