Is his last name pronounced like Bernie Parent’s ?

I believe it is pronounced "Pah-runt". Just kidding. Never thought about the pronunciation. In my head it automatically was pronounced like how we would identify Mom and Dad.

His parents (no pun intended) were French-Canadian immigrants to the U.S., and probably pronounced it like the later hockey player. OTOH, I found the following short note in the Boston Globe of March 3rd, 1907:

Of course, we all hope that Freddy Parent will be apparent at shortstop when the season opens.

This suggests that, in Boston, his name was pronounced like the English word.

Could be, but the press didn't always get pronunciations right. I recall there was a lot of struggle with Eddie Cicotte's surname back then. According to the man himself, it's "See-cott". I found something in his file at the NBL where somebody wrote and asked, and this is exactly how he replied!
